Update, 31 May, 10am

The Gauteng police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a 51-year-old man, reported to be Angelo Agrizzi, was robbed at a petrol station in Fourways.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said the incident took place on 30 May at about 1.15pm as Agrizzi was filling up petrol in his BMW when he was approached by four suspects dressed in black clothing and wearing balaclavas.

“While he was in his vehicle, with the window opened, he felt something touching him next to his right ear. When he looked up, he saw two unknown armed men, one of them pointing at him with a firearm.”

Allegedly the suspects instructed Agrizzi to open the door and hand over everything he had. Makhubele said the items stolen include, “A wristwatch, wedding ring, black leather briefcase containing, one apple MacBook silver in colour, five Mont black pens, a wallet with an undisclosed amount of cash and bank cards.”

The value of the items stolen is estimated to be R378 000. The suspects fled the scene in a silver sedan. No shots were fired and no one was left injured.

Initial report, 31 May, 9.15am

Former Bosasa chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi was held at gunpoint last night, 30 May, reportedly on William Nicol Drive in Johannesburg.

Our sister publication The Citizen reported that Agrizzi has confirmed the incident but said that he had become ‘immune’ as he had been hijacked a few times before.

Agrizzi was quoted in the article as saying, “The words uttered were ‘stop talking’.”

He believed he had been targeted in a ‘shake-up and orchestrated warning’ to stop testifying in the state capture inquiry and other corruption cases.

This publication is waiting for comment from the Gauteng police, more updates to follow.
