Five arrested by Douglasdale police

DOUGLASDALE – Five suspects have been arrested by Douglasdale police in connection with a house robbery which happened in Bloubosrand on 15 May.

Douglasdale Police Station officers recently arrested five suspects for possession of suspected stolen property and possession of dangerous weapons.

They are also suspected to be linked to a house robbery incident that took place on 15 May.

The house robbery took place at about 7.30pm in the Bloubosrand area. The suspects are aged between 24 and 27 are due to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

Station spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane explained in a statement released to the Fourways Review, “It is alleged that a 47-year-old man, owner of the house, had just arrived home and was surprised by the suspects who were already in his yard. Two of the suspects pointed at him with their firearms and forced him inside the house, where his family was already held by the other three suspects.

“The suspects then tied the victims before they ransacked the house. They took four television sets, a laptop, five cell phones and also stole the victim’s vehicle in order to transport the stolen property.” The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Kya Sands informal settlement.

Swift reaction by Douglasdale police led to the arrest of the suspects, who then led the police to the stolen items hidden in different houses around the Pipeline informal settlement. “The police recovered suspected stolen properties that include cell phones, jewellery, laptops, tablets, knives, cameras, bank cards, microphones, dangerous weapons and a rifle.”

The suspects are still being investigated as they are suspected to be involved in other serious and violent crimes. Police investigations are continuing.

“We also appeal to members of the community to keep on reporting criminal activities happening in their area by phoning Douglasdale police on 011 699 1333 or Relief Commander on 071 675 7158 or 086 001 0111,” Tshetlhane concluded.
