Crime concerns Riverside residents

RIVERSIDE – The residents of Riverside raised their concerns about crime in the area at a recent public meeting held on 18 May.

Residents shared their concerns about crime in the area and asked for change at a public meeting held in Riverside on 18 May.

The area, located between Diepsloot and Dainfern near the Riversands Incubation Hub, has developed quickly recently as houses, complexes and RDP homes have been built. The public community meeting was held at a hall in the Curro Academy Riverside campus and had speakers from the South African Police Service, the Joburg Metro Police Department and the ADT Security company address the residents gathered, who also had the opportunity to ask questions and bring up issues.

The hall was full, with about 170 community members occupying plastic seats which had been put out for them, and another 50 or so people standing behind the seats. Increasing levels of crime, the lack of visible police presence in the area and hopes for the future were raised.
