No place for illegal advertising – MMC Sun

FOURWAYS – MMC comes down hard on illegal advertisers in Fourways.

Public Safety MMC, Michael Sun and Metro police officials gathered once again in the name of operation Buya Mtheto on the 19 April.

This time around the matter being addressed was illegal advertising and littering in the Fourways area. Members of the community were also present to help remove illegal advertising signs.

A major concern for motorists is mobile advertising trailers on the side of the road which can obstruct the view of the driver.

Sun strongly condemned such advertising. “This is becoming a nuisance especially in the Fourways area,” he said.

“A lot of illegal advertising is popping up everywhere, the by-law does not allow such, especially on council land… some obstruct traffic. We’d also like to urge businesses and corporate not to use these illegal advertising methods.”

Sun also explained how illegal advertising could be identified. “If you see any signage, especially next to the road, and it is not on a properly developed structure, that’s probably illegal. Mobile trailers are not supposed to be parked anywhere, instead they should be moving, pulled by a car but they cannot be dumped somewhere for display.”

Residents who come across illegal advertising were advised to contact Metro police offices on 011 375 5911.
