Fourways karate kid is ready for tournament in Cyprus

FOURWAYS - Fourways kid taking karate to a global stage

Alessandro Biagioni will fly the Fourways Martial Arts Academy flag high at the upcoming Karate 1 – Youth League tournament in Limassol, Cyprus.

The 13-year-old will jet out of the country alongside his instructor and father Stef Biagioni on 30 April, with the initial tournament scheduled to get underway on 3 May.

The Karate 1 – Youth League is a newly created competition conceived to highlight the impact of karate in young age groups.

Established under the umbrella of Karate 1, and designed to complete Karate 1 – Premier League and Karate 1 – Series A, the Karate 1 – Youth League aims at becoming a platform for the development of youngsters in their quest to progress in the sport.

The tournament will see juniors from around Europe and across the world gather for high-class karate action.

Stef said, “This is a high level tournament, we will be coming up against international learners who compete on a regular basis and they get to travel the world.”

Although Alessandro will go into the tournament as an underdog, Stef said they’ve been preparing and they would give their all. “He is a new kid on the block but we’re preparing and taking this very seriously, we’re training every day, we also train during weekends, so for his age, he does quite a lot of training and we also do a lot of traditional karate.”

Alessandro said, “I want to measure myself against other competitors my age from across the world so that I get closer to winning the world championship and I’m really excited to be part of this competition.”

Stef conveyed his gratitude to his son’s school Hoërskool Randburg.

“The school has been really supportive throughout his karate career, we’re very thankful. They let him travel and attend extra training sessions if required.”
