Douglasdale CPF Sector 4 builds ties with community through crime prevention campaign

DOUGLASDALE – Commander Captain Len Celliers did a presentation on 26 April about crime trends and explained the steps involved in rapidly reacting to a situation.


Douglasdale Police Station’s Sector 4 Commander Captain Len Cellier outlined risk factors that can lead to crime including, house burglaries and common robberies such as snatch-and-grabs during the forum meeting on 26 April.

“Sergeant Mokwena, from SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit provided an informative presentation on the unique challenges posed by domestic violence, including the many forms domestic abuse can take [physical, verbal, emotional, economic and more],” read the statement released by the Douglasdale CPF.

Douglasdale CPF added that SDS Security’, Mphilo gave tips on general security awareness, such as:

• Be aware of your surroundings, at work and on your way to work
• Be careful who you share your employer’s information with
• Keep doors and garage doors locked at all times
• Be aware of suspicious-looking vehicles
• Make sure you know how the alarm and panic button works
• Know who your security company is
• Always ask for identification if not sure
• If someone comes to your gate or house and the employer hasn’t said anyone is coming, don’t just allow them access to the premises.

During the meeting, safety tips were also covered. This included electrical awareness, especially during load-shedding, pool safety and what to do in the event of drowning and the importance of knowing the medical history of both your employer and employee members, as this could save a life.
