Reddam House Helderfontein tours America

HELDERFONTEIN – Reddam House schoolchildren take a trip to the United States of America for a character-building trip.

Grade 9 to 11 learners at Reddam House Helderfontein recently embarked on life-changing tour to the United States of America.

The tour began on 24 March and ran until 4 April and aimed to teach learners about different cultures in other parts of the world while gaining a sense of independence.

On the first day of the tour, the learners took a walk around Boston, one of the oldest cities in the USA, and were able to visit the Chipotle Mexican restaurant. It was the place to be as they indulged in American-sized tacos and salads.

The learners also took part in an amazing race challenge in Boston where they were divided into groups and were required to explore the city in a quest to find clues set up for them. The challenge meant the learners had to stop strangers on the street for questions and direction, which helped them learn about their surroundings and engage with locals.

Head of academics at Reddam House Helderfontein, Shelley Peringuey, who was also part of the tour, spoke about the importance of the tour and the valuable lessons the children learned while away in America.

“It was a good tour, navigating our way throughout the city, learning about different cultures, history and most importantly the learners had fun,” she said.
