Dainfern College go all out at gala

DAINFERN – Swimming season was recently jump-started at Dainfern College with two inter-house galas at the end of last month.


The swimming season was recently jump-started at Dainfern College with two inter-house galas on 24 and 29 January. Learners from both the prep and high schools put their spirits on full display with costumes, posters and face paint.

The prep school learners eagerly participated in war cries, fun races, relays and individual events. The High School heads of houses even joined to drum up some extra spirit.

The school congratulated the Kraken team who won the gala with 301 points, followed by the Phoenix team with 242 and the Griffin team with 237.

Ray van Gass, new Senior Prep principal, was proud to hand out the trophies at his first inter-house gala, alongside Karen Da Costa, head of Prep School Sport, and Tessa Shellard, director of sport.

Trophies were awarded to:

  • Junior runner-up victrix ludorum: Athena
  • McColgan
  • Junior runner-up victor ludorum: Ndalo
  • Moyo
  • Junior victrix ludorum: Christie Piquet
  • Junior victor ludorum: Cameron Wolpert
  • Senior runner-up victrix ludorum: Isabella
  • McColgan
  • Senior runner-up victor ludorum: Reily
  • Elliot
  • Senior victrix ludorum: Amber Fairon
  • Senior victor ludorum: Matteo Valente

The high school learners ensured there was an electric atmosphere around the pool. Each race was full which lead to the closest results in years, with Kraken taking the trophy again with 405 points, followed by Phoenix with 403 and Griffin with 397.

Swimmers were awarded as follows:

  • Junior victor ludorum: Dylan Sistenich
  • Junior victrix ludorum: Chloe Moore
  • Senior victor ludorum: Jordan Bouchier
  • Senior victrix ludorum: Skyla-Rae Fuller
  • Best performance of the gala for 50m

Several Dainfern College Alumni attended the gala to swim in a race against the current matrics and staff. The matrics ended off their final gala with a spirited war cry before jumping into the pool.
