Between 8 and 10 February, the police in the Joburg West Cluster arrested 162 suspects from different parts of the cluster, which includes Douglasdale, Randburg, Linden, Florida, Diepsloot, Honeydew and Roodepoort.
The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from rape, house robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of marijuana, drunk driving, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and shoplifting.
An intelligence-driven operation led by the Joburg West Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 33 and 38, from Denver Hostel in the east of the city for conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms that include two pistols with serial numbers filed off and 30 live rounds of ammunition.
In another incident, the Joburg West Cluster Reaction Team arrested two suspects in Linden for possession of car-breaking implements, jamming devices and using false vehicle registration numbers.
The suspects are expected to appear in Johannesburg, Randburg and Roodepoort magistrates’ courts soon.
