Crime bulletin- Five crime stories in Sector 4, including Kyalami and Blue Hills

MIDRAND – Here are five crimes which took place in Sector 4 during the first days of 2019

 

Here are five crime stories that have been reported to the Midrand Police Station between 6 and 8 January. These incidents all took place in Sector 4, which includes the Glenferness, Kyalami, Barbarque Downs and Blue Hills suburbs. The information was supplied by the spokesperson, Constable *** Selowa.

1) Couple tied up in home

On 6 January an incident armed robbery was reported. A woman and her boyfriend were awoken in the early hours of the morning by two men, carrying firearms, in their house. The men tied the couple up with shoelaces and took their vehicle from the property. Neither the man nor woman was hurt during the ordeal and managed to untie themselves to seek help.

2) House burgled while owner away

On 6 January an incident of housebreaking and theft was reported. A Kyalami resident locked up her property before leaving Johannesburg for a vacation on 26 December 2018. When she returned on 6 January she discovered that the door to her cottage had been broken and items worth about R135 500 including four computer screens, two iPhones and a keyboard had been stolen.

3) Couple attacked by armed men

On 6 January an incident of robbery with a firearm was reported. A man was at home in Kyalami when his wife arrived at the property. As she was attempting to park her car two armed men approached the husband who had come out to meet her. The men started hitting the husband before threatening him with a gun to stay quiet. The men continued to hit the husband until he eventually lost consciousness. When he woke, the men were gone, he found that his wife had been shot in the shoulder and called the police. The couple were taken to the Fourways Life Hospital to have their injuries treated and the suspects are unknown.

4) TVs stolen from Kyalami lodge

On 6 January an incident of business breaking and theft was reported. Between 10pm and 3am the following morning, a guest lodge in the Kyalami area was broken into when unknown assailants broke down the door to two of the rooms. A 49-inch TV (valued at about R7 000) was stolen from one of the rooms, and the burglars attempted to take one from a second room as well but had failed to remove it from the wall. No arrests have yet been made.

5) Cable theft leaves community in the dark

On 8 January an incident of tampering with infrastructure was reported. A security guard on duty in the Leeuwkop area was informed that the electricity in the area was out and the community was without power. When he visited the substation, he found that about 30km had been cut and stolen. No arrests have been made.
