Police officers honoured at function

MIDRAND – Midrand police celebrate year-end triumphs.

The men and women of the Midrand Police Station let their hair down at their annual end of year function, which was held at the Leeuwkop Golf Course on 7 December.

The officers, who are usually in their blue uniforms, donned their fancy attire for the special occasion.

Crime Protection Forum chairperson Steve Johnstone expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the event, the sponsors and most importantly the police officers for their time and dedication.

“Thank you, everyone, for attending this function. I am glad to see new faces,” he said.

Certificates of achievements were awarded to police officers and administrators who have gone beyond the call of duty.

The annual end of year function is not only a night of dancing and laughter but it is a night of reflection on the trials and achievements of the year.

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier David Tsotsotso boasted of the station’s achievements.

“In the 11 months since I arrived at the Midrand Police Station, in the period of 2017 and 2018, the station has moved from being in position 126 to position 6 in the province.”

Tsotsotso added that although this function is also in honour of those who have gone the extra mile, all officers are important to the community.

“Even though you have those who are lagging in producing results, you still need them, because we are all important in ensuring that Midrand is a safe community,” he said.

In his closing address, Tsotsotso thanked the families of the officers for their endless love and support. He also stirred up officers for the new year.

“There are big changes coming to the police service. By the end of this month, I will receive nine new constables for the station.

He concluded, “There are interviews that are ongoing for 39 trainees to attend the [police] academy. The Midrand Police Station will be given enough resources.”
