Bluegum Hill Pre-Primary celebrates Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday

PAULSHOF – Paulshof children celebrated a very special mouse when they held a birthday for Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday recently.

The children of Bluegum Hill Pre-Primary School had a squeaking good time recently in celebration of a very special mouse.

On 16 November, the children and staff of the school, which is located in Paulshof, held a birthday party in honour of the cartoon character Mickey Mouse who turned 90 years old this year.

The 53 children aged between 18 months and six years wore Mickey Mouse-themed clothes, put on their Mickey Mouse hats and ate a Mickey Mouse-style cake on the day.

They also got a surprise when the character himself showed up just in time for everyone to sing happy birthday.

”Mickey Mouse celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday [18 November],” said Fiona Marais, the principal and owner of the school.

“We decided that we would celebrate the birthday today at the school,” Marais added.

“The children have been doing Mickey-themed activities all week, and also made their own hats that they are wearing today.”

After the children sang Happy Birthday to their visitor, he hugged and high-fived them before the cake was given to guests.

Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney and cartoonist Ubbe Eert Iwerks in 1928 and has become perhaps the most recognisable cartoon character of the 20th century.
