Douglasdale police arrest three suspects for theft on William Nicol Drive
DOUGLASDALE – Three suspects nabbed for a theft out of motor vehicle along William Nicol Drive and Leslie Road.
The Douglasdale police arrested three suspects who were involved in a theft out of motor vehicle along William Nicol Drive and Leslie Road.
According to the head of communications at Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, the incident took place on 30 October at 1pm and three suspects between 26 and 29 years old were arrested.
She explained that a 26-year-old woman pulled over her vehicle along William Nicol Drive to buy sunglasses from a street vendor.
“She then got out of her vehicle to get some money from the boot. After paying for the sunglasses she wanted to use her phone which she had left in the vehicle but the phone was nowhere to be found.”
The victim was apparently confronting the vendor regarding the whereabouts of her cell phone when she noticed that her phone was in the hands of another unknown man who was with the street vendor.
“A chase ensued with the victim following the suspect who then handed the phone over to yet another suspect.”
Tshetlhane added that the patrollers and neighbourhood watch members who witnessed the incident also gave chase.
“The police were alerted about the incident. All three suspects were then arrested and are due to appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court.”
Douglasdale police thank the community members for a good working relationship and advise motorists to make sure that their valuables are not visible in the vehicle when stationary or while driving as this will attract opportunistic criminals.
