Heroes who save rhinos from poachers are recognised at Rhino Conservation Awards

MAGALIESSIG– These are the winners of the 2018 Rhino Conservation Awards.

Recognising those involved in saving and preserving rhinos from poachers was the order of the evening at the 2018 Rhino Conservation Awards as winners were announced at Montecasino.

Hosted by the Game Rangers Association of Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs, Carl Zeiss AG and China New Enterprises Inc, the awards noted conservation practitioners who work tirelessly.

Founder of the awards, Dr Larry Hansen said, “The Rhino Conservation Awards has generated interest across Africa as these prestigious awards recognise both the tenacity of those on the ground and the innovations and new approaches employed by those involved in significant aspects of this struggle.”

The highlight of the evening was a video message from His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco, who commended all of the nominees for their contribution to the struggle. Andrew Campbell of Game Rangers Association of Africa explained that it was his deepest hope that the recognition encouraged both the winners and nominees to continue the work that is being done to save the rhino across the continent.

Dignitaries that attended included representatives from the embassies of Canada, France, Malawi, Taiwan, United Kingdom and members of the Department of Environmental Affairs.
