In a bid to get the community clean, various stakeholders in the community cleaned and painted Witkoppen Primary School as part of an A Re Sebetseng initiative.
“As a school, we feel very grateful to have people from the community coming to assist in cleaning and painting our school, it really means a lot to us. We enjoy working with the community and in future, we would like to work together with the community to help improve our school and mainly our sports field as a lot still needs to be done to it,” the school’s principal, Philemon Mashimbyi said.
Present at the cleanup was Ward 94 councillor David Foley who explained that as an A Re Sebetseng initiative, they approached the school’s principal and asked how they could help.
“I then noticed that there were a lot of windows missing on window frames hence PG Glass is here and I also noticed that there were three classrooms that were broken and I then asked Sumercon if they would mind looking at the school, which has led to them adopting the school as part of their CSI project.”
Foley explained that they were there to pick up the rubble and clutter in the school. “We are present at this cleanup with Sector 3 CPF, Future City Fourways, teachers of the school and various other members in the community.”
Future City Fourways’s Jean Berdou highlighted that they were supporting the city and the local authorities because of the relations and activities they have with them. “We really thought that we should help this school because it is a real symbol to reach other youth of our community. It is very important for the school to be clean as it looks after 900 primary schoolchildren mainly from Diepsloot and as a community we need to look after all our community especially our youth.”
Berdou explained that the primary schoolchildren needed a conducive learning environment for them to learn hence it needed to stay clean. “It is wonderful to see everyone working together as we should as a community.”
