Lonehill resident, Adele Koolen is in the running for the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa crown after been selected as a top 25 finalist.
The finalists were revealed on 29 June at a red carpet charity ball dinner in aid of Women4Women at Emperors Palace. “It was such an amazing feeling being announced [as a finalist],” she said.
“I am still on cloud nine, however, there is a lot of hard work that lies ahead and now more than ever it is of utmost importance to be a face for not only the Mrs South Africa brand but also for all our sponsors.”
Koolen added that during the selection process she had grown personally. “If anything, the journey has taught me that it is okay to be unapologetically me and a woman.”
She said her #IAmEnough campaign, which helps people to realise their full potential regardless of their situation, keeps her focused. “My campaign helps men and women, as well as children, [to realise] that they are worthy to be acknowledged regardless of what situation they are in. It helps to drive and uplift them.”
On the evening, Koolen also walked away with the coveted influencer award. The award is given to the contestant with the most votes by the public on social media.
She is an avid mountain biker and cycled the Joberg2C in aid of Surgeons for Little Lives last year. “I have finished six 94.7 cycle challenges and six Cape Town Cycle Tours, I worked as a physiotherapist for 15 years specialising in sports injuries and represented South Africa as part of the medical team on the world stage.”
Koolen said if she won the crown she would use the platform to be a voice for the voiceless. “I want to spread positivity and let those out there facing challenges to embrace it and stand up and say ‘I am enough’, just like I have. The crowning of Mrs South Africa will take place at Emperors Palace on 9 November.
