Slade wins IGT at Kyalami Golf Club

KYALAMI – Slade Pickering and Keegan Mclachlan keep it tied for two days before Pickering bags two eagles in the last round of the IGT.

Slade Pickering played three brilliant rounds of golf to win the International Golf Tour Challenge at Kyalami Country Club.

The South African, now living and studying in America, started well and was closely followed by a fellow amateur player, Keegan Mclachlan, at the tournament from 18 to 20 June.

They both shot 9-under par 69s on the first two days to lead their 90 professional and amateur opponents behind by some distance.

It was anyone’s guess as who might take the third and final day, but Pickering stepped up his game after a slight wind on the first two days had died down.

Slade Pickering putts well in the last round to shoot two eagles and finish with a 14-under par 64, and win the tournament.

He shot two eagles in the last round to finish with a 14-under par 64, while Mclachlan could only shoot a third successive 69.

“The standard of golf was excellent,” said Kyalami’s general manager, Richard Fulford.

“This is not an easy course to play and for those guys to [shoot] well under par is impressive.”

The club’s head golf professional, Kyle Puttick said he thoroughly enjoyed Pickering’s performance.

“He played a brilliant long game throughout, hitting far and straight, and on the last day he matched this with an even better putting performance,” he said,

The next big competition at the club will be the Big Easy Tour in September.

There are always golf days and charity golf days taking place at the club and anyone interested in taking part is welcome to contact the club.
