Operation #BuyaMthetho aims to curb bad driving on the roads of Fourways

FOURWAYS – Operation #BuyaMthetho by Metro police sets to rotate back to the Fourways area in three months.

Motorists commuting in the Fourways area might have noticed that after the recent implementation of operation #BuyaMthetho (bring back the law) by the Metro police, bad driving behaviour has calmed down on the roads.

According to the spokesperson of Metro police Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, the operation was in the Fourways area for the month of March which saw the impounding of taxis as well as motorists that were found turning from incorrect lanes, driving on the shoulder of the emergency lane, driving in the wrong lane towards oncoming traffic as well as overtaking on solid lanes.

He stated that the operation was currently taking place in the South of Johannesburg and they are attending to all the hotspots reported in Johannesburg.

“We haven’t received any complaints so far since the operation and it seems that the taxi drivers in Fourways seem to be driving a little more decently and are abiding by the rules of the road,” Minnaar said.

He highlighted that it looked like the operation delivered the message that breaking the rules of the road will not be tolerated by the Metro police. “There is a list of hotspots that we are following and I think the operation will come back to the Fourways area in the next three months to bring order back on the roads.”

Minnaar concluded that if community members notice a regular occurrence of bad driving in the area they can report them to 011 375 5911. “We will make sure we bring back law abidance on our roads.”
