UPDATE: Mrs SA is airlifted from Mount Everest

FOURWAYS – Mrs South Africa Nicole Capper was set to climb Mount Everest in support of Rare Diseases South Africa, a cause close to her heart.

Today, 17 April, 3.45pm:

Lisa Madibe, media officer for the Tammy Taylor Mrs SA pageant, can confirm that Mrs South Africa Nicole Capper was airlifted to hospital due to altitude sickness.

“Nicole is stable, recovering well and in good spirit,” she said.

Earlier today, 17 April, 8am:

Nicole Capper, Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa 2018 winner and Fourways resident, is currently climbing Mount Everest to raise money for Rare Diseases South Africa.

Capper set off on her journey on 4 April and will spend 18 days summitting the mountain to reach the camp, which is an estimated 5 364m above sea level. She is attempting to raise about R100 000 for the organisation, a non-profit that aims to support and provide practical aid to both individuals and families affected by rare diseases.

So far, Capper has managed to raise exactly R11 199 towards her goal. But she is not only acting as a public figure, but also as a mother to a sick child as well. Her daughter, Tatum Sloane, is affected by cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder which affects the lungs, pancreas, liver, kidneys and intestine.

“I want to climb every step for those who can’t, take every breath for those who can’t, and experience the outdoors like some can only dream of,” Capper said before she left for Nepal to begin her journey.
