Camp under the stars for a good cause

BARBEQUE DOWNS – Join the Urban Family Camp Out on 21 April and enjoy camping out on the Leeuwkop Golf Course in aid of Friends of Free Wildlife.

Would you like to spend a night camping out, gazing at the stars and experiencing a guided bird walk all for a good cause? Then the upcoming Urban Family Camp Out is just for you.

The Skrik vir Niks team is organising a special experience for the night of 21 April in aid of the Friends of Free Wildlife (FFW) organisation, where participants will be able to camp out on the Leeuwkop Golf Course. You can learn about the stars, have a good old-fashioned sing-along around a campfire and enjoy the world around you.

“Many families spend very little time outdoors together and this presents a wonderful, fun opportunity to do just that at a fraction of the cost right on their doorsteps,” explained Skrik vir Niks captain, Karolynn van Vüren. “This is a great cause and a fabulous opportunity to connect with friends and family in a way kids of today seldom get the chance to do.”

Tickets cost R100 per person or R350 for a four-man tent. All proceeds will go to FFW and tickets must be pre-booked as none will be available at the gate.

“Friends of Free Wildlife volunteer staff will be on hand with their specialist people, who will offer stargazing and a guided bird walk early in the morning [of 22 April],” added van Vüren.

There is also no need to bring food or refreshments, as these will be on sale during the evening and while there will be fires made, none will be available for cooking. Van Vüren added that camp will need to be broken by 7am on 22 April so that golfers are not inconvenienced.

“All that is needed is your tent, and sleeping bag – or just sleep under the stars. Or don’t sleep, just come and have a little bit of outdoor fun in aid of the animals.”
