Taxis in Fourways abide by the law of #BuyaMthetho

FOURWAYS – This is what operation #BuyaMthetho is all about.

With the recent implementation of operation #BuyaMthetho (bring back the law) by the Metro police, taxi drivers in the area seem to be driving a little more decently and are abiding by the rules of the road.

This comes after the spokesperson of Metro police, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar shared with the Fourways Review that the days of reckless and negligent driving by taxi drivers in the area are over.

“We are turning the heat on taxi drivers who drive recklessly in the area and we are impounding unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles. This service operation is to bring back the law on our roads as we have saturated the Fourways area for about two weeks now,” Minnaar said.

The other spokesperson for the Metro police, Superintendent Edna Mamonyane added to Minnaar’ s comment and stated the operation came after the numerous complaints they were receiving from the Fourways community about reckless driving of taxi drivers in the area. They then saw fit to come through to the area and implement operation #BuyaMthetho. “We wanted to bring back the law and to show how important it is for taxi drivers to abide by the rules of the road.”

The operation saw the impounding of taxis that were found turning from incorrect lanes, driving on the shoulder of the emergency lane, driving in the wrong lane towards oncoming traffic as well as overtaking on solid lanes.

“Since the start of the operation on 1 March, there has been a noticeable reduction of traffic violations by drivers within that area. The operation can now move on to other hotspots within the Johannesburg area,” Mamonyane said.
