Update: Nine suspects arrested after robbery at the Kyalami Country Club

KYALAMI – Read on the events that transpired at the recent shooting and robbery at Kyalami Country Club.

Nine suspects have been arrested, and four firearms and two vehicles recovered after a robbery and shootout at the Kyalami Country Club on the evening of 11 March.

The hunt for the remaining two suspects continues.

According to the spokesperson of Gauteng police Captain Mavela Masondo, the complainant was in his office at the club when he was confronted by the armed suspects who demanded money. “An undisclosed amount of cash was taken by the suspects who then proceeded to rob customers of their belongings which included wallets and cellular phones,” he said.

“The victims were fortunately not injured during the ordeal although most suffered some trauma.”

Masondo added that upon the police’s arrival at the crime scene, a shootout ensued with the suspects and six of them were arrested. “A multidisciplinary team comprising of various police units was assembled to expedite the search for five remaining suspects and firearms,” he said.

“Within a few hours, three more suspects were arrested which brought the number of arrests to nine. Four unlicensed firearms were recovered and two vehicles suspected to have been used during the commission of the crime were impounded.”

He said 14 cellphones and two wallets inside one of the seized vehicles were recovered. “The phones and wallets are believed to have been taken from the customers and employees during the robbery.”
