Lizzy the mother dog getting back in shape after being dumped on Rivonia Road

CHARTWELL – Read more on Lizzy the mother dog who was rescued after being dumped with her family.

Lizzy, the mother dog who was rescued after being dumped along with two puppies and a male dog on Rivonia Road earlier this year has been recovering well at the Ark Animal Centre in Chartwell.

This was according to the Ark’s Candice Eilertsen, who explained that numerous people were involved in the rescue of Lizzy and her family. “The mom and two puppies were brought to the Ark. The third puppy was adopted straight away by the woman who rescued them.

“A few days later a male dog was rescued from being stuck in a manhole, and he was thought to have been the dad dog but this was not the case and the dumped male dog has never been found,” she said.

Eilertsen added that Lizzy was severely malnourished but has made a remarkable recovery. “Her two puppies have since been adopted by amazing families and now Lizzy’s waiting for her new home. She is about three years old, has a fantastic nature and gets on with all humans and other dogs. She also loves her walks to the dam and is very social.”

Eilertsen further added that the centre has recently been inundated with adult dogs and they do not have the facilities to accommodate them. “I believe the reason behind this is due to people emigrating and/or moving into smaller complexes.”

She concluded that furry lovers can have a look at their Facebook page for pictures and write-ups on the dogs. “People can also pop into the shelter to meet all these wonderful creatures. Our adult adoption fee is R850 which includes all vaccinations, de-worming, sterilisation and microchipping.”
