Kids in Business learning centre launched at Sunninghill Village Shopping Centre
SUNNINGHILL – Read how children can get their foot in the right direction.
Honing children’s skills at a young age, while teaching them how to turn these skills into a business, is the core centre aim of the South African Training and Business Development Academy.
Launching its first walk-in centre in Sunninghill Village Shopping Centre at Shop UG9 on 24 February, the academy introduced its innovative and practical Children’s Entrepreneurial Programme called Kids in Business and Teens in Business.
The programme is for children between the ages of seven and 12.
“We aim to ensure that children see the bigger picture through the teaching of fundamental business concepts. Our aim is to teach kids business skills in a fun, stimulating environment with practical lessons.We are an entrepreneurial club that uses fun activities and stories to stimulate young minds to become business oriented,” the academy’s Vino Chetty said.
According to Chetty, the academy provides entrepreneurship education which will equip children with the knowledge, skills and motivation to encourage entrepreneurial success from a young age.
He added that the academy educates children on understanding business concepts by goal-setting through exploration of interests, interaction through role-playing, storytelling and videos while ensuring that business concepts are embedded in the activities that the children take part in.
Chetty further explained that they have future plans which are to take the academy to townships but through the help of sponsorships from corporate companies or community members. “We just need sponsorship of material and equipment so that we can bring this programme to children in the townships who do not have the opportunity of being groomed and turning their skills into a business.”
Present at the launch was Ward 93 councillor, Candice James, who said, “Thank you so much for inviting me to this launch today, as I leave here inspired by this academy. It is so sad that it’s taken us so long to find such an academy which provides business classes for children as we needed this about ten years ago – so, for this, congratulations.”
“With the seed that you are planting for these children, you will be giving them a foot in the right direction.”
