Three men from Tembisa apprehended for illegal dumping at Leeuwkop Prison

LEEUWKOP – Rumours of an escape at the prison on Friday were rubbished.

While there were rumours of an escape at Leeuwkop Prison among community members yesterday, 9 February, the communications officer for the prison assured this website there was no escape.

Leeuwkop Communications’ Sanku Tsunke said, “There’s no escape.”

He added that, in fact, people who were caught dumping illegally on the prison’s property were chased.

“They broke the fence and dumped rubble in our yard. Three men from Tembisa were apprehended and their truck was impounded here at Leeuwkop,” said Tsunke.

He added that a case would be registered at Sandton Police Station.

This website has previously reported that the deputy chairperson of the Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF), Taki Michalakis urged community members to use designated dumping sites for vegetation or rubble.

“If residents notice people dumping illegally, they should immediately call authorities. MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun has set up a hotline for this. Metro police numbers are 011 758 9650; 011 237 8000 and 082 779 1361.”
