#ICYMI: City to hold memorial service for two Metro officers killed on duty

FOURWAYS – On Monday evening, two Metro officers were killed after the driver of a double cab vehicle ploughed through a roadblock on Witkoppen Road.

Tomorrow, 1 February, Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, MMC for Public Safety Councillor Michael Sun, Chief of Police Mr David Thembe and officials from the Department of Public Safety will hold a memorial service for the two female Metro officers who were killed on the evening of 29 January.

Several Metro officers had been deployed to their usual roadside check-duty on Witkoppen Road on Monday evening and had pulled over three vehicles for a routine check when the driver of a double cab vehicle crashed into them.

Two of the female officers were fatally wounded. Two other female officers along with two passengers from the stopped vehicles, as well as the driver of the double cab, were seriously injured and taken to hospital by Emergency Management Services.

The families of the deceased will also be in attendance.

 

The programme will be as follows:

Date: Thursday, 1 February 2018.

Wreath laying: 11am at the corner of Witkoppen and Cambridge Road, between Umhlanga Avenue and Hallam Road.

Memorial Service: 1pm at the JMPD Training Academy in Booysens, 1 Stevens Road, Stafford.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
