Future City Fourways pleased with road upgrades outside Witkoppen Primary School

LONEHILL – Read what the Future City Fourways (FCF) had to say about the road upgrades outside Witkoppen Primary School.

Jean Berdou, board member of Future City Fourways (FCF) said they were pleased with the road infrastructure development outside Witkoppen Primary School and surrounding intersections.

Berdou, who is also the chairperson of the Fourways Community Policing Forum, said, “The new entrance via the traffic lights is taking great shape, the additional traffic lane is moving along well and the paving layouts are taking shape as well.

“Much still needs to be done, however, we are excited at the progress on our community roads.”

He added that the traffic light islands at the intersections on both sides of Leaping Frog Shopping Centre were being upgraded and Johannesburg Roads Agency was on site effecting repairs to the traffic lights at Robert Bruce Road and William Nicol Drive.

In other developments, Berdou said the FCF and City of Joburg had conducted a huge litter sweep in the area. “I am really excited about what can and is being done when a community works together and gets on with improving our aesthetics, sanitation and security.”

Meanwhile, community activist, Rosemary Smead was the first to highlight the issue of a damaged pavement outside the school and Witkoppen Clinic. Smead said, “When I noticed that the nurses of the clinic and children of the school were having [difficulty walking on] the pavement, that was when I approached the right-hand staff of [mayor] Herman Mashaba to get the area fixed.

“… I am very glad that when I raised the matter it was attended to promptly. I believe I have to serve the community to bring awareness of things in the area. You could say I am the voice of the community.”

Smead added that another issue in the community were potholes on the roads. “I am a cyclist and there are many potholes in the area which make it so hard for a cyclist to ride and I wish that those potholes were attended to as soon as possible.”
