Douglasdale police plea to community to join community structures this year

DOUGLASDALE – Read what the head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane warns the community about.

With the new year at hand, the Douglasdale police encourage community members to be more involved in community structures to combat crime in the area.

According to the head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, they intend to enhance police-community partnerships by appealing to the public to join the local community structures. “Community members can join structures like the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Community Foot Patrollers, Sector Crime Forum, Neighbourhood Watch and Youth Desk to mention a few.”

She said it was important to enhance visibility with the participation and deployment of the community patrollers in the area including a partnership with other stations and units in the cluster, as well as other stakeholders like Metro police to help with crime-prevention activities.

“Though criminal activities may not take place all the time the police are non-stop involved in activities aimed at preventing crime.”

Tshetlhane also appealed to members of the community to keep reporting criminal activities in their area by phoning the station.

“We strongly advise the community to refrain from publishing crime incidents on social media before reporting to the police as this might warn criminals before the police react.”
