Massive Mandela Masterpiece to be seen in space

DAINFERN – The Massive Mandela Masterpiece project is the brainchild of Carolyn Steyn of 67 Blankets for Mandela.

Dainfern College schoolchildren were motivated by the ambassador of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela, Corrie Campbell to get involved in the Massive Mandela Masterpiece project.

The Massive Mandela Masterpiece project is the brainchild of Carolyn Steyn of 67 Blankets for Mandela started a few years ago to knit blankets in honour of the number of years that Mandela spent in service of his country.

The massive portrait is being made to mark what would be Mandela’s 100th birthday on 18 July next year and will hopefully make it into the Guinness World Records. The project will be a portrait of the late Madiba, made entirely out of knitted or crocheted blankets which will be visible from space.

In his message to the children, Campbell said they could help knit towards this initiative and by doing so they could make a difference in the world.

The school has pledged 12 blankets for the project and parent Lisa Mancer, who is driving the project at the college, said they were aiming to make more than double that.
