Police and CPF raise crime awareness at the relaunch of Lonehill Shopping Centre

LONEHILL – Read what the police along with the Community Policing Forum did at the relaunch of Lonehill Shopping Centre.

The Douglasdale police together with the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum Sector 4 held a crime awareness drive at the relaunch of Lonehill Shopping Centre on 18 November.

According to Douglasdale Police Station’s communications officer, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, the awareness campaign was aimed at informing community members about safety during the festive season.

“This awareness campaign is to alert community members to be vigilant this festive season, whether at home or when doing their shopping,” Tshetlhane said. “They [the public] need to ensure that they practise safety when shopping as car jamming is still an issue at shopping centres or malls.”

She added that the campaign was to also encourage residents to join Community Policing Forum structures. “If community members and the police come together, I believe that we will be able to combat crime in the area.”

Chairperson of the forum, Jean Berdou said, “Police and the Community Policing Forum along with various police senior leaders were present at the awareness campaign. The leaders were able to interact with the community as well as make awareness of Community Policing Forum structures.”

Also present at the crime drive was the Police Mounted Unit and children had lots of fun feeding the horses.
