Sharron Dingle is a woman of stature

FOURWAYS – Sharron Dingle has been awarded in the 'Woman in Community' category for the Woman of Stature: Woman of the Year Awards 2018. Find out more here!

Readers might recognise Sharron Dingle for her work as public relations officer for Hirsch’s Fourways, but it is her personal efforts and ethics that have earned her a nomination for the Woman of Stature: Woman of the Year 2018 Awards.

Woman of Stature is a platform, under managing director Charlotte du Plessis, where women can learn to live with a purpose and reach their full potential. Every year the organisation hosts the Woman of the Year Awards to honour the work, skill and passion of women who are changing the world for the better.

“I don’t know who nominated me, that is kept private. But I’ve been nominated in the Woman in Community category and I found out about it in mid-October,” Dingle told Fourways Review.

The awards see five women nominated in each of the eight categories –Woman in Community; Woman Entrepreneur; Woman in Health; Woman in Finance; Woman in Media; Woman in Education; Youth Ambassador and the Director’s Award.

Dingle works hard to help those around her and has done so her whole life. She remembers that as a child on weekends while her parents worked, she would visit old-age homes and spend time with the elderly.

“The thing that has always driven me is the chance to make a difference in people’s lives. Helping others is the only thing that’s made sense to me,” Dingle explained.

Her work in the community is extensive, she helps drive donations for organisations and individuals in Diepsloot, launches projects every Mandela Day and runs domestic workshops so that domestic workers can acquire new skills and be uplifted, a cause that is very close to her heart.

“A lot of my community work almost happens by itself. Sometimes just being in the right place at the right time, or putting people I know in touch with each other to solve a problem, can make a huge difference to someone’s life.”

She has been a little shy about telling people about her nomination, as she does not want people to think that she’s bragging about her achievements. Dingle decided to talk about the Women of the Year awards, not to raise her own reputation, but instead to inspire others.

“This award may mean that I’m able to give aid to even more people. And I also want people to see that they can also help others too.”

The Woman of Stature: Woman of the Year Awards 2018 will take place at Emperors Palace on 24 March. The Fourways Review will keep you updated on Dingle’s journey!
