Waterfall resident chases hijacking suspect to Sunninghill

WATERFALL– An alleged hijacking took place in the Waterfall residential area and moved its way to Sunninghill. Read here for more information.

A hijacking allegedly took place near Waterfall Estate at about 10.25am on 26 October.

Savika Armed Response was alerted of the hijacking by a man from the Waterfall Islamic community. The incident took place close to the mosque.

Savika senior management Ravi Jiwuth and Wayne Morton responded immediately as they were patrolling in the area, followed by back-up arranged by the security company.

“The gentleman who reported the incident chased the suspect in his vehicle from Waterfall towards Sunninghill.
As they reached the Chilli On Top Shopping Centre, the gentleman drove and pushed the suspects, who allegedly drove a white Volvo Sedan, off the road with his bakkie.

“The suspect got out and fled on foot towards the [Jukskei] River. Savika then gave chase,” said Jiwuth.
Community Active Protection (CAP) K9 Unit arrived and assisted Savika. Together, they managed to arrest the suspect.

According to Jiwuth, Sandton police were phoned for back-up as well. “Sandton [police] were very quick with their response; brilliant teamwork by all.”

The victim was also taken to Sandton Police Station for questioning.
