#ICYMI: Magistrate grills foiled robbery suspects as to why they were at Fourways Mall

FOURWAYS – Six suspects are facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The bail application of the six men accused of conspiracy to commit robbery at Fourways Mall at the end of September, continued at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court today (18 October) with Magistrate Gayle Pretorius asking the defence attorneys to give reasons as to what they were doing at the mall.

All six accused live in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. Four of the accused, who have made their bail applications, all claim to have been on their way to shop at Fourways Mall.

“Pretoria is a big city with quite a number of malls. I need to know what is so special about Fourways Mall, why did they all [from the same area, on the same day] choose to shop there on that day,” Pretorius asked.

She also instructed defence attorneys to submit supplementary affidavits providing the reasons why in the case of four of the accused.

The bail application for the remaining two accused will continue today.

The state will present its case on 19 October and judgement on the bail application will be handed down on 20 October.

The six are facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances. They are also charged with possession of prohibited firearms (fully automatic firearms) and possession of firearms without a licence, permit or authorisation to possess firearms.
