Manana’s co-accused plead guilty

JOBURG – The two men who participated in the assault of three women at Cubana with the former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training have pleaded guilty to the crime.

 

Co-accused Cyril Madonsela and Thulani Mdaka have pleaded guilty to the two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm that they were charged with. The duo appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 6 October.

They were accused of having taken part in assaulting two women at the Cubana Restaurant in Fourways with former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana.

They are believed to be Manana’s relatives. They both reside at the same address at Cedar Creek in Fourways.

One of the accused was arrested on 13 September at Randburg Magistrates’ Court while he was there to support Manana during his appearance. He was pointed out by one of the victims. The other accused handed himself over to the police. They are all out on R5 000 bail.

Manana has already pleaded guilty on three counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Pre-sentencing proceedings in this matter will take place on 7 November at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
