The case against two men who are believed to have taken part in allegedly assaulting two women at Cubana Restaurant in Fourways with former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana has been postponed to 5 October, to allow the state time to disclose contents of the docket to the defence.
On 20 September, Cyril Madonsela and Thulani Mdaka appeared briefly before Magistrate Liesel Davis in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on two charges of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm. The state alleges that the duo assaulted Monoisa Duma and Noluthando Mahlaba on 6 August by slapping, kicking and pulling their hair.

Speaking to Fourways Review outside court, defence attorney Jameson Mawila said once they have received copies of the docket, they will decide how to proceed with the case. “We act on instructions from our clients. I’ll hear from them how they will be pleading,” Mawila said.
The two co-accused are believed to be Manana’s relatives. They both reside at the same address at Cedar Creek in Fourways.
One of the accused was arrested on 13 September at Randburg Magistrates’ Court while he was there to support Manana during his appearance. He was pointed out by one of the victims. The other accused handed himself over to the police. They are both out on R5 000 bail.
Manana has already pleaded guilty on three counts of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Sentencing proceedings in this matter will take place on 7 November at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
It is understood that should Madonsela and Mdaka choose to plead guilty, they will be sentenced on the same day as Manana.
