An inmate has escaped from Leeuwkop Prison and is on the run. Sanku Tsunke, the spokesperson for Leeuwkop Correctional Services, confirmed that there has been an escape and police are investigating.
Ofentse Morwane from the communications department at Gauteng Correctional Services told Fourways Review that a manhunt is currently underway to rearrest offender Thomas Marubini, who escaped from the prison on 17 August. “He was part of a work team at the piggery and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 2015 for robbery,” Morwane said.
