The Junior Indoor Netball World Cup 2017 is coming soon
FOURWAYS – The Junior Netball World Cup is coming to Fourways in July, find out all about it here.
Netball enthusiasts are in for a treat, as the Fourways Falcons Action Sports Arena will host the Junior Indoor Netball World Cup 2017 in July –and you can go watch the games for free.
The Fourways Review spoke to Hazel Coertze of the South African Indoor Netball Federation, who is coordinating this year’s world cup, to find out more about the competition.
“Players will be coming from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa for the world cup,” Coertze said. “There are several different age groups competing: U14s, U15s, U16s, U17s and U17 mixed, which means a team made up of both genders [girls and boys].
“We are all [at the Falcon’s Action Sports Arena] very excited about the championship games.”
The world cup is held every few years, with the most recent tournament being held in Brisbane, Australia back in 2015 and attended by the same three nations involved in this year’s tournament.
“I’d say that South Africa stands a very good chance of winning this one,” Coertze said. “The process that players have to go through to qualify is lengthy. The South African players who get chosen to compete in the world cup come from all over the country.”
According to Coertze, about seven of the players in the SA teams are from Johannesburg, either from Roodepoort or the northern suburbs, while the rest are from as far away as KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape.
Coertze would like to see more members of the community cheering their local players on.
“Entrance to watch the games at the arena are free of charge, so supporters just need to get themselves here in order to watch.”
