1kg heroin recovered in drug bust

SANDTON – A 48-year-old man was arrested for possession of 1kg of heroin with a street value of R500 000.

The Sandton Police recently arrested 59 suspects for various crimes including a man who was arrested for dealing in drugs.

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said, a 48-year-old Nigerian national was arrested for dealing in drugs after members of the Directorate for Priority Crime, Saneb, Gauteng Police and Joburg North’s crime intelligence service conducted an operation at the Morningside Shopping Centre.

One kilogram of heroin to the value of R500 000 was found. The suspect will appear in court soon, said Mothapo.

Other successes include:

  • 12 arrests for possession of drugs
  • 23 arrests for driving under the influence
  • 9 arrests for shoplifting
  • 4 arrests for fraud
  • 1 arrest for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 arrest for murder
  • 1 arrest for reckless and negligent driving
  • 2 arrests for theft
  • 2 arrests for assault
  • 2 arrests for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 2 arrests for business robbery.

 

The Sandton Police also issued a warning about house robberies and gave some security advice:

  • Know who works for you – even when they are temporary contractors. It is important to get a copy of an original identification document or passport
  • If possible verify their place of residence and request a copy of a police clearance certificate
  • Always keep gates locked when you are in the house/have panic buttons handy and install bugler proofing on your doors and windows
  • Keep doors, windows and garages closed and locked. in the evenings
  • Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the police as soon as possible.
