Dainfern College hockey players, Hannah Brandt and Nicholas Gillard were awarded trophies for their exceptional performance at the Treverton College Sports Festival.
Gillard won the trophy for the most goals scored during the festival in Mooi River. “Nicholas has worked extremely hard on his hockey, he’s never far from the hockey astro. He leads by example, as he’s the first one there and the last to leave. It’s not surprising that he has earned this accolade,” said coach Matthew Reuben.

Brandt won the trophy for best defender. “Hannah’s hockey has improved immensely over the last three years. She’s playing with such confidence. This comes down to her continued commitment to the achievement of the highest standards,” said Reuben.
The college’s 1st hockey, netball and rugby teams took part in the annual festival, taking with them bucket-loads of school spirit, lots of heart and a handful of dedicated coaches, all necessary when the weather is rainy and cold. The coaches all agreed that this year’s tour really was the best, yet, since all their players rose to the challenge in some quite testing situations.

For Reuben, the victories of the girls’ and boys’ hockey teams showed that Dainfern College hockey was progressing well.
Netball coach Robyn Staessen said the girls’ learning experience and their great attitude would stand them in good stead for the upcoming winter netball season; while rugby coach Koos du Toit commended his rugby team on their performance. “I am very proud of the boys. We’re really looking forward to a great season,” said Du Toit.
