World Sleep Day celebrated at Wendywood Primary School

FOURWAYS – The school that clocks up the most bodies on a bed will be the winners.

World Sleep Day was on 17 March and as usual Hirsch’s had some fun community-driven ideas up their sleeves and celebrated the special day.

Together with Cloud Nine and Rest Assured, Hirsch’s came up with an idea to see how many Grade 4 schoolchildren could fit onto one queen size bed for at least 30 seconds. “This took place at Wendywood Primary School in Sandton. Despite it being a difficult time with exams and such, the distraction was welcomed with bright smiling faces,” commented Sharron Dingle, the PRO of Hirsch’s Fourways.

Wendywood Primary School children try their best to squeeze on the queen size mattress.

Chief operations officer of Hirsch’s, Margaret Hirsch said, “Sleep is such an important part of our lives, particularly for young children. What we have found, when we visit underprivileged pre-schools in the areas in which we operate is that sometimes the children don’t have anywhere to sleep during their lunch break time.

“Most stay up until the evening when their parents pick them up and that midday sleep is vital for them. Cloud Nine and Rest Assured have come on board with us to donate sponge mattresses for a preschool of our choice.”

The school in Hirsch’s branch catchment area that clocks up the most bodies on a bed will be the winners and they get to nominate which preschool they’d like to donate the sponge mattresses to.
