FOURWAYS – Another injury at Fourways Mall construction site. Read more here.

A subcontractor was severely injured recently at a construction site at Fourways Mall, but it has now been confirmed by Mota-Engil Construction South Africa (Mecsa) that he is in a stable condition. `

According to Carlos Galego, managing director of Mecsa, who is investigating the incident, the on-site paramedic’s immediate reaction played a huge role in ensuring the employee was stabilised.

“The injured employee was breaking concrete on a contract basis at the time of the incident. The employee was instructed not to enter the structure as it was under construction,” explained Galego.

“We at Mecsa are extremely affected by this incident as in everything we do. Our aim is the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors and the communities around our projects.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of the employee and we wish him a quick recovery.”

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said, “I think it is imperative that all safety officers do the relevant checks daily. Construction workers need to have the relevant harnesses on when doing work.”
