Douglasdale police create awareness in community

FOURWAYS – Douglasdale police officers share tips on how to keep your motor vehicle and business safe.

According to the spokesperson for Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Kgasoane, an anti-crime campaign was held recently to address the alarming rate of crime around Fourways Mall.

“Pamphlets were distributed and the community was made aware of safety tips and the danger of leaving valuables in the car,” said Kgasoane.

Safety precautions for motorists given by Douglasdale police:

  • Make sure your vehicle is locked at all times
  • Make sure you physically check that your vehicle is locked and that the alarm is activated
  • Make sure all your valuable items are locked in the boot of your vehicle
  • Make sure when shopping in a mall that your vehicle is covered by CCTV cameras
  • Make sure all your valuable items are removed from your vehicle when parked at home, especially during the night

Safety tips for business owners given by Douglasdale police:

  • Invest in realistic security measures such as a reliable alarm system with panic buttons and CCTV cameras
  • Avoid holding large sums of cash on the premises
  • Bank large sums of money immediately
  • Make use of drop safe systems and security companies where possible
  • Constantly change routes, especially when banking money
  • Train employees to be observant and vigilant
  • Never cash up in front of clients or employees and use a separate area or office.
