Home break-in fails

MAGALIESSIG – Attempted housebreakers caught in the act on camera.

At about 6.30pm on 8 February, an unknown number of suspects attempted to break into a residence on Troupant Avenue in Magaliessig.

The incident was caught on camera and the public is urged to contact the South African Police Service if they have any information about the vehicle in the footage.

The video, which appears to be taken from a CCTV home security system, lasts more than a minute and shows a large, white BMW with the registration PGX 083 GP driving up to the gate.

One man emerges from the backseat, approaches the gate and attempts to pry it open by hand. Once he realises he cannot gain entry into the property, he returns to the vehicle.

Fourways Review spoke to the owner of the residence who said he was not at home during the incident, but his younger brother was. “He saw the car in the CCTV footage and pressed the panic button,” said the owner.

He told Fourways Review that when police ran the registration plates of the vehicle, they were cloned. “The plates are actually registered to a silver BMW in Constantia.”

Anyone who has any information about the incident, the vehicle or the suspects seen in the video is urged to contact the police immediately.
