Safety on the road a priority

MIDRAND – Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar's road rules for the new year.

Spokesperson for Metro police, Wayne Minnaar, has issued a  message for all residents for the festive season as the year draws to a close.

Minnaar said road safety is very important so as to minimise the number of deaths on the road caused by reckless driving, among many other things.

Holidays are  commonly seen as a time to celebrate and, as a result, many people are often under the influence of alcohol.

Minnaar’s road safety tips  include:

  •  Drivers must take a break every two hours
  • Motorists must never overtake on a curve, bridge or solid white line
  • Drivers must drive within the speed limit
  •  Motorists must never drive under the influence of alcohol
  • Motorists must always ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before embarking on a trip.

Minnaar  highlighted that the Metro police, South African Police Services and National Traffic officials will be visible everywhere.
