JOBURG - Six petrol bombs were found at Wits

Three homemade petrol bombs were found at Wits University on 12 October.

This follows a bomb scare at Wits that was reported at the campus on 11 October.

According to Wits University Senior Communications Officer, Shirona Patel a backpack containing three beer bottles filled with petrol was found at the universities Raikes Gate on west campus was handed over to the police.

“Early reports show that a petrol bomb may have been thrown through the basement window which started the fire in the building. Two others were found next to the building,” Patel said.

She added that another two petrol bombs were found outside the John Moffet building, and another was possibly thrown through the window.

Two weeks ago, security officials found three petrol bombs on the same campus which were safely removed by police.

Police are conducting security checks on all cars and people entering the university.

Wits has been trying to resume academic activities all week.
