Diepsloot in the midst of elections

DIEPSLOOT – Change is in the air in Diepsloot.

DA Ward 95 candidate, Refilwe Mathebula, has described the election fever gripping the populous township of Diepsloot as a nice vibe.

Mathebula made the remarks on 1 August at the start of the casting of special votes in the township.

“There is a nice vibe in Diepsloot and it is promising. There are 40 registered special voters in my ward and only one is a home visit,” said Mathebula who also voted on the day.

The enthusiastic Mathebula told Fourways Review that the residents of the services-starved township were ready to deliver change.

“People have been blind for a long time, but not anymore. They are very much aware that change will improve their lives from the squalor that they are living in,” said Mathebula.

Diepsloot is notorious for broken sewer pipes, lack of water and electricity in some sections of the township.

Mathebula expressed surprise that the ruling ANC remained invisible in the street up to the time of casting ballots.

“We have never seen them, only the Economic Freedom Fighters are seen here and there but the ANC is just not in Diepsloot anymore and we wonder what they have up their sleeves,” said Mathebula.

“The way the ANC is relaxed is so worrying, they might be banking on something else to surprise us, but we wonder what that could be.”

Mathebula is locking horns in Ward 95 with the ANC’s little-known Matlale Mphahlele.

The ruling party replaced their current councillor in the ward, Rodgers Makhubele with Mphahlele.

The ANC’s Johannesburg regional secretary, Dada Morero, denied that his party was invisible in Diepsloot.
