ANC candidate councillor for Ward 94, Refilwe Nsibande, believes that working together will help build a better ward and a stronger community.

“The outgoing ward committee under the Democratic Alliance councillor was to me, dysfunctional and never drove a single successful community programme,” Nsibande said.

She added that it is of top priority to her to keep Ward 94 residents updated on service delivery by calling regular public meetings and feedback sessions after council meetings. “I enjoy helping out and have always been involved in how the community works and operates. Also improving the delivery of basic services by ensuring that our tarred roads and traffic lights are maintained and our local infrastructure such as streetlights and sewerage systems as well.”

The other issues Nsibande wished to tackle will be the fight against crime by strengthening community safety forums in conjunction with the police station and local security companies.

“I also intend to ensure that the local Johannesburg police department not only focuses on traffic violators but also enforces bylaws by eradicating illegal dumping and noise pollution,” Nsibande said.

“Even though it is my first time being a ward councillor, I am, however, clued up about politics because of the exposure I have received from being involved in community outreach programmes. The one I am currently involved with is helping to empower and teach domestic workers their rights.
