Young man electrocuted in Fourways

FOURWAYS- "It appeared that he fell approximately four meters from the structure and it is understood that he was working on the scaffolding when he sustained an electric shock and fell off the scaffolding onto bags of cement," ER24 Spokesperson, Werner Vermaak said.

A young man sustained injuries after he fell off scaffolding while working, at a company that is situated along Witkoppen Road and Kingfisher Drive, earlier this afternoon.

ER24 Spokesperson, Werner Vermaak stated that at approximately 1.30pm paramedics from ER24 and other private services arrived on the scene where they found the patient complaining of possible back injuries and a burn wound due to an electrocution.

“It appeared that he fell approximately four meters from the structure and it is understood that he was working on the scaffolding when he sustained an electric shock and fell off the scaffolding onto bags of cement,” Vermaak said.

Vermaak added that the man was then treated on scene and later transported to hospital by another service.

“A second patient, also believed to be on the scaffold at the time was assessed and treated on the scene. He indicated to paramedics that he was also electrically shocked when he tried to grab the man from falling off the scaffolding. He was later transported to hospital,” Vermaak said.

Vermaak concluded that the exact cause for the electrocution is not yet known.
