Jabulani, a happy tournament
KYALAMI – Summit College Preparatory school hosted their friendly Jabulani tournament between private schools in nearby areas.
Summit College Preparatory hosted their annual Jabulani tournament.
The tournament is an interschool soccer and netball competition in which private schools from Kyalami, Midrand, Bryanston, Buccleuch, Parkview, Chartwell, Centurion and other nearby areas are invited to participate. “The number of participants is limited to 12 teams per age group, per event,” said the college’s head of sport and culture, Vinod Naidoo.
He said the tournament was aimed at smaller and less competitive schools, and was not only about winning but was for team spirit, fun and individual enjoyment.
“There is no financial support from parents, really. Participating schools contribute R100 per team to cover some of the costs of hosting the tournament,” he said.
In its 13th year, Naidoo said the competition between the schools was fantastic. “Schools are already queueing to enter their teams in the next tournament. We started with four participating schools and now we have to limit the number of participants,” he said.
“The most important thing about the tournament is that all schools, even though some of them are not competitive at all, are given an opportunity to play five matches in the round-robin stage.”
