Do not fall victim to housebreakings

FOURWAYS - Follow these safety tips to avoid your property being broken into.

Housebreakings are on the rise again and the head of communications at Dougladale Police Station, Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, has provided tips for community members to follow so as to not fall prey to such a crime.

“It is important for community members to know that their safety is of importance when at home and that they need to make sure they are aware of suspicious activity in their neighbourhood,” he said.

Muthan added these tips to follow:

  • Keep all doors and windows locked when not at home.
  • When at home, make sure that burglar doors and windows are locked.
  • Do not open your home to strangers.
  • Make sure that all alarm systems are activated when leaving your property.
  • If you have domestic help, let them know of people who are coming to your home and keep an eye on suspicious vehicles or activities happening in your neighbourhood.

“We urge community members to become more vigilant when at home or when leaving their property unattended. If you suspect any suspicious activity or suspect someone is about to commit a crime in your area or property, promptly contact your sector vehicles, police or 10111,” Muthan concluded.
